How Important is Video on your Business Website?

This is a great question, and the answer is pretty simple – Very.  It’s important enough for me to get IN FRONT of the camera to do a video intro for our website, and I really hate being in front of the camera.  That is why I have made a career choice to be BEHIND the camera.  But, I understand the importance of utilizing video on our website, and therefore I am biting the bullet and getting on camera.  A professionally produced video can be an invaluable asset for a business.  With so many people using the internet to find services these days, you need something to set you apart, and video can do that.  A 1-2 minute video on your homepage can make a world of difference for your visitors.  Instead of having to look around and read about you to decide if you are the person they want to do business with, they can watch a short video and get their most basic questions answered.

There are two categories that we have narrowed down, and both can benefit from video.  Light Productions falls into the category of Business to Business, meaning that the majority of our clients are other businesses.  But, most of the business we work with fall into the second category, Business to Consumer, meaning that they provide a service directly to the consumer.  Both categories can greatly benefit from video, but where we see the most demand, and the most need right now, is in the Business to Consumer category.  With most people feeling the tough economy right now, they are tightening the purse strings.  But, this doesn’t mean that they aren’t spending money or using the services that you might provide, they are simply looking harder to make sure that each dollar that leaves their hand is money well spent.  At the same time, attention spans are getting shorter and people want information delivered to them, instead of having to spend a lot of time looking for it.  The video accomplishes this quickly, effectively, and in a way that has an impact on people.  In most cases, people will remember a video better than they remember just a website.

Our website is being re-vamped and doesn’t have our videos on it yet, but if you want to see some of the web videos we’ve produced for our clients, you can watch them at vimeo.com/lightproductions.  Let us know what you think.

This only touches on the value of having a video for your business.  We will talk more later about all of the other benefits, including equipping your sales force, e-mail campaigns, and more.  As always, if you have any questions or you are interested in a video for your business, we would love to talk to you. Thanks for reading.

Client Spotlight: Chenal Heating and Air

I love my job.  I really enjoy getting to be creative, learning new skills, and helping quality businesses get exposure, but by far, the best part of my job is the great people that we get to work with.  As a Little Rock based video production company, we really enjoy working with other Arkansas companies who are working hard, doing quality work, and serving their customers well.  One of the great companies that we have had the honor of working with is Chenal Heating and Air. Light Productions produced this video for Chenal to use on their website.  It highlights the main aspects of their business and answers a lot of the common questions that potential customers have.

For 20 years, Chenal Heating and Air has been providing high quality heating and air conditioning service, installation, and repair to their customers in Little Rock and the rest of Central Arkansas.  Through those years they have grown to more than a dozen employees providing 24/7 service.  Their commitment to quality in all of the work that they do permeates all areas of their business, from the people they hire to the equipment they install.  It has been great working with them, and if you live in the Little Rock area, don’t hesitate to call Chenal Heat and Air next time you have a heating and air conditioning need.  You can learn more at www.chenalheatandair.com.

The video above was produced by Light Productions in 2010.  The video was shot in Little Rock, Arkansas using our Sony EX-3 HD Cameras.  The greenscreen video used throughout this video was shot using our reflecmedia portable greenscreen.  The video was edited in Final Cut Pro, with the music done in Sonic Fire Pro.  If you interested in creating a web video for your company, you can learn more on our website at www.lightproductions.com.

Sonic Fire Pro is Just Awesome

I assure everyone reading this that I am not being paid by Smartsound to talk about their product, although the way that I talk about it may make it sound that way.  Nope, not paid, just an extremely happy customer and user of this great program.  For anybody in the video field, whether you produce short videos for businesses or you are an indie producer, you have to check out Sonic Fire Pro for your music.  Sonic Fire has saved me countless hours scoring videos, which in the past has been one of my least favorite parts of post production.  You had to dig through a library, find a piece of music, and then force it to fit into your video by either fading it out at a hopefully natural spot, changing the length of your video a little bit to fit the music I chose, or paying to get a custom piece of music.  Sonic Fire Pro fixes all of these problems.

You do have to purchase libraries, but they are very reasonably priced and usually come with 10-12 songs in each library.  The great thing about it is that it is royalty free music, so once you buy the song, you can use it as much as you want and you don’t have to pay each time you use it, and it is all neatly organized within the program.  Another great feature is that most of the music is multi-track music, meaning that you can edit it right there in the program.  If you don’t want to hear drums, you can take out the drums.  Want more piano?  you can adjust it however you want, all with the same piece of music.  No extra purchases necessary.  They also include multiple variations of each song, with each variation having a slightly different feel, instrument arrangement, etc.  So, with one song, you may have up to 6 different unique variations of that song, and then all of the editing that you can do with it yourself.

And the last part that I addressed above, but not nearly the last great feature of this program, is getting the music to fit your video.  Probably the greatest feature of this program – You tell it how long you want the piece of music, and it edits it for you with an actual beginning and end to the song.  It doesn’t just fade out, it actually re-arranges the song and creates a custom version that is exactly the length you need.  You can see in the picture to the right how this looks.  I told it that I want my piece of music to be 1 minute, 23 seconds, and 7 frames, and it makes it exactly that length and even gives me a waveform preview of the last 4 seconds so I can see how the song ends.  You can see in the picture also where I could set the variation and mood of the piece.  Once I have it the way I want it, I hit insert and export it as an aiff file (or however you choose to export it).  There are other options here, including a plugin that interacts directly with Final Cut, but I will talk more about that in a later post.

There is so much more about this program that is just awesome, but I won’t go into all of that today.  If you are in the video production industry, you need to at least take a look at this program.  It is worth every penny, and for all that it can do, it’s doesn’t cost that much at all.  You can see all of the features of this video and audio scoring software at www.smartsound.com.  If you have any questions, as always feel free to leave a comment.  Thanks for reading.

Who is Light Productions

Thanks for reading our first Light Productions blog post.  Even though we are a little behind the times just starting to blog, we are excited about it.  Light Productions is a Little Rock, Arkansas based video production company.  We shoot all of our footage in High Definition with our Sony EX-3 solid state cameras, and we edit in Final Cut.  We have been in business for 20 years, opening in 1991 as a full service video production company with the goal of providing high quality video production at an affordable price.  Much has changed since 1991, but that still remains our goal.  As the times have changed, we have adapted, including the addition of web design and SEO into our services, but even in that, our goal continues to be providing excellent service at an affordable price and helping others use the power of video, and now the internet, to share their message.

This blog will be a place to share a lot of things.  We will review products and programs as we use them and test them.  We want to be a service to the production community, and if we find a great product, you can be sure that we will share about it here.  On that note, if you are in the production field and you haven’t looked into Sonic Fire Pro, you need to take a look at it.  That will be the first full review that we do later this week, but take a look at it, it’s an awesome program that has saved us who knows how many hours adding music to our videos.  We are also excited to share some of the great stories that we run across working with clients, and getting the word out about some of the great business and people that we get to work with every day.

That’s it for now, be sure to check back regularly, and feel free to comment if you have any questions, want more information about our services,  or just want to say hello.  Thanks for taking the time to read.
